Who I am.
Hi, I’m John “Johnny” Walker, and I’ve spent my entire life right here in Oxford County, Maine. At 26 years old, I’m part of a new generation that’s ready to step up and make a difference. My family’s been rooted in this community for generations, and like those before me, I’m here to give back to the place I call home.

Family is everything to me. I come from a big, close-knit family, and the connections we share are what keep me grounded. The importance of family and community is something I carry with me in everything I do, whether it’s in my work or in how I approach serving our district. I believe in looking out for each other and making sure no one’s left behind.

I’m proud to be an Independent because I believe it’s time for some fresh ideas and unity in our district. I’m active in the community, serving on two volunteer boards and chairing one of them. For the past six years, I’ve been the president of the Wild River Riders Club in Gilead, and I’m also an active Freemason in Bethel, where I try to live by the values of charity, integrity, and brotherhood.

Outdoor recreation is a big part of who I am. Whether it’s snowmobiling, hunting, or fishing, I love spending time in the great outdoors. I’m passionate about preserving our lands and natural resources so that future generations can enjoy the same experiences we’ve had. It’s important to me that we protect these spaces while still finding ways to responsibly enjoy them.

My public service journey started early. At 18, I ran for a seat on the MSAD #44 Board of Directors representing Bethel, and I won. During my three-year term, I had the honor of chairing the Facilities, Policy, and Personnel Committee, working hard to make sure our schools were in good shape, our policies made sense, and our staff had the support they needed.

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. My first business was actually selling photos when I was 10 years old. I had a little Kodak camera that I got for my birthday, and I took a picture of my brother Toby that won first place in a local contest. That was just the start—I still take photos whenever I can. In 2011, I started a DJ business, kicking off with school dances and eventually moving on to weddings and events. These days, I still DJ from time to time, but my main focus in 2024 is my property management company, where I’m finding new ways to serve our community.

As someone who’s lived here my whole life and plans to stay, I’m deeply committed to making our community even stronger. I’d love to earn your vote this November so we can work together to make Oxford County the best it can be.

Thanks for stopping by—it really means a lot!

Why I'm Running.
I am running to give my generation a voice in politics. Born and raised in Oxford County, I am deeply connected to this area, as were many generations of my family before me. I understand the values, challenges, and dreams of the people who call this place home. That’s why I’m stepping up as an Independent Candidate for Oxford County Commissioner—because our voices deserve to be heard, and our communities deserve leadership that listens.
Volunteering is in my blood. I am proud to serve in four different organizations, where I work alongside fellow residents to make a positive impact in our community. But I believe we can do even more. I want to see all communities thrive, not just in good times, but especially when challenges arise.
The December 2023 storm was a wake-up call for all of us. Over seven inches of rain fell, turning roads into rivers, washing away bridges, and leaving many without electricity for days. We saw firsthand how unprepared we were for such an event. Our tax dollars should be working for us, especially in times of crisis.
As your County Commissioner, I will prioritize emergency preparedness and make sure our communities are equipped to handle whatever comes our way. I will work tirelessly to ensure that our tax dollars are spent wisely, working with Oxford County EMA on projects that protect and strengthen our communities. We need to be proactive, not reactive, when it comes to the safety and well-being of our residents.
My campaign is about more than just addressing immediate needs; it’s about building a future where Oxford County is a model of resilience, unity, and growth. Together, we can create a county that is prepared, connected, and thriving—a place where every voice is heard, and every resident is valued
See the Goals Page for a little more about my plans if elected!
